Some career officials said they feared the incoming administration may be looking to undo the work that the Obama administration has done on countering violent extremism.
Let’s hope so! Let’s hope that Trump’s team is requesting these names so that all those who are responsible for the denial and willful ignorance that has hamstrung our response to the jihad threat for years can be swept out.
On October 19, 2011, Farhana Khera of Muslim Advocates wrote a letter to John Brennan, who was then the Assistant to the President on National Security for Homeland Security and Counter Terrorism. The letter was signed not just by Khera, but by the leaders of virtually all the significant Islamic groups in the United States: 57 Muslim, Arab, and South Asian organizations, many with ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Muslim American Society (MAS), the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), Islamic Relief USA; and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).
The letter denounced what it characterized as U.S. government agencies’ “use of biased, false and highly offensive training materials about Muslims and Islam.” Khera complained that my books could be found in “the FBI’s library at the FBI training academy in Quantico, Virginia”; that a reading list accompanying a powerpoint presentation by the FBI’s Law Enforcement Communications Unit recommended my book The Truth About Muhammad; and that in July 2010 I “presented a two-hour seminar on ‘the belief system of Islamic jihadists’ to the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) in Tidewater, Virginia,” and “presented a similar lecture to the U.S. Attorney’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council, which is co-hosted by the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office.”
These were supposed to be terrible things because I was bigoted and hateful. But many of the examples Khera adduced of “bigoted and distorted materials” involved statements that were not actually bigoted and distorted at all, but simply accurate. What was distorted was Khera’s representation of them. For instance, Khera stated: “A 2006 FBI intelligence report stating that individuals who convert to Islam are on the path to becoming ‘Homegrown Islamic Extremists,’ if they exhibit any of the following behavior: ‘Wearing traditional Muslim attire’; ‘Growing facial hair’; ‘Frequent attendance at a mosque or a prayer group’; ‘Travel to a Muslim country’; ‘Increased activity in a pro-Muslim social group or political cause.’”
But the FBI intelligence report Khera purported to be describing didn’t actually say that converts to Islam were necessarily “on the path” to becoming “extremists” if they wore traditional Muslim attire, grew facial hair, and frequently attended a mosque; it simply included these behaviors among a list of fourteen indicators to “identify an individual going through the radicalization process.” Others included “travel without obvious source of funds’; “suspicious purchases of bomb making paraphernalia or weapons”; “large transfer of funds, from or to overseas”; and “formation of operational cells.” Khera selectively quoted and misrepresented the list to give the impression that the FBI was saying that devout observance of Islam led inevitably and in every case to “extremism.”
Despite the factual accuracy of the material about which they were complaining, the Muslim groups signing the letter demanded that the task force “purge all federal government training materials of biased materials”; “implement a mandatory re-training program for FBI agents, U.S. Army officers, and all federal, state and local law enforcement who have been subjected to biased training”; and more—to ensure that all that law enforcement officials would learn about Islam and jihad would be what the signatories wanted them to learn.
Brennan assured Khera that all her demands would be met: “Your letter requests that ‘the White House immediately create an interagency task force to address this problem,’ and we agree that this is necessary.” He then detailed other specific actions being undertaken, including “collecting all training materials that contain cultural or religious content, including information related to Islam or Muslims.” In reality this material wouldn’t just be “collected”; it would be purged of anything that Farhana Khera and others like her found offensive—that is, any honest discussion of how Islamic jihadists use Islamic teachings to justify violence.
Thus was born the euphemistic “Countering Violent Extremism” program, which carefully avoids any mention of Islam and jihad. It is time to drain this swamp.
“Exclusive: Trump team seeks names of officials working to counter violent extremism,” by Warren Strobel and Arshad Mohammed, Reuters, December 23, 2016:
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team has asked two Cabinet departments for the names of government officials working on programs to counter violent extremism, according to a document seen by Reuters and U.S. officials.
The requests to the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security involve a set of programs that seek to prevent violence by extremists of any stripe, including recruitment by militant Islamist groups within the United States and abroad.
Reuters could not determine why the Trump team asked for these names. The Trump team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump has frequently criticized President Barack Obama for not doing enough to battle Islamic militants and for his refusal to use the term “radical Islam” to describe Islamic State and other militant groups.
Some career officials said they feared the incoming administration may be looking to undo the work that the Obama administration has done on countering violent extremism….
It seems Mr Putin does not want to engage in a war of wits with an unarmed soon to be the worst ex-President in US history, Mr Obama.
On Monday the Obama administration finalized a Social Security gun ban that could prevent “tens of thousands” of law-abiding elderly citizens from purchasing guns for self-defense.
Breitbart News reported this ban on July 18, 2015, when it was learned that the Obama administration was creating a ban on gun purchases that would apply to Social Security recipients who needed help managing their finances. The Los Angeles Times reported that the ban would be sweeping; that it would cover those who are unable to manage their own affairs for a multitude of reasons–from “subnormal intelligence or mental illness” to “incompetency,” an unspecified “condition,” or “disease.”
In January, Obama incorporated the ban into his executive gun controls. A White House preview of those controls explained that the Social Security Administration (SSA) was putting together rules for how/when to enforce the ban:
Current law prohibits individuals from buying a gun if, because of a mental health issue, they are either a danger to themselves or others or are unable to manage their own affairs. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has indicated that it will begin the rulemaking process to ensure that appropriate information in its records is reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The reporting that SSA, in consultation with the Department of Justice, is expected to require will cover appropriate records of the approximately 75,000 people each year who have a documented mental health issue, receive disability benefits, and are unable to manage those benefits because of their mental impairment, or who have been found by a state or federal court to be legally incompetent. The rulemaking will also provide a mechanism for people to seek relief from the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm for reasons related to mental health.
In early May 2016 the SSA released more information on the ban in a 41-page preview. Page 19 said:
Under our representative payee policy, unless direct payment is prohibited, we presume that an adult beneficiary is capable of managing or directing the management of benefits. However, if we have information that the beneficiary has a mental or physical impairment that prevents him or her from managing or directing the management of benefits, we will develop the issue of capability. If a beneficiary has a mental impairment, we will develop the capability issue if there is an indication that the beneficiary may lack the ability to reason properly, is disoriented, has seriously impaired judgment, or is unable to communicate with others.
In other words, once the beneficiary has the SSA’s attention–by having someone help with finances–the process of determining mental health status begins, becoming incrementally intrusive. And if a ruling of mental illness sufficient to meet the reporting threshold is handed down, then the beneficiary will be reported to NICS and prohibited from purchasing firearms.
Despite public outcry, the rules have now been finalized. The NRA-ILA reports:
Barack Obama’s Social Security Administration (SSA) issued the final version of a rule that will doom tens of thousands of law-abiding (and vulnerable) disability insurance and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients to a loss of Second Amendment rights under the guise of re-characterizing them as “mental defectives.” The SSA, for the first time in its history, will be coopted into the federal government’s gun control apparatus, effectively requiring Social Security applicants to weigh their need for benefits against their fundamental rights when applying for assistance based on mental health problems.

An eight-year-old girl carried out a suicide bombing attack at a Damascus police station, according to SANA (the Syrian Arab News Agency) and as reported by RT.
The agency cited a source in the Damascus Police Command that reported, “Terrorists sent an eight-year-old girl with a small homemade bomb to a police station in the Midan neighborhood. When she entered the building, militants activated the explosive device with a remote control, the child died at the scene, one police officer suffered light injuries.”
The bombing has not been claimed by any group as yet. The girl reportedly came to the police station and said she was lost.
The blast killed her and lightly injured one policeman.

Lost in the presidential race this year was what happened this summer in the Illinois state legislator. Governor Bruce Rauner signed into law Senate Bill 1564, which made abortion the preference for unintended pregnancies in Illinois. The bill stipulates that all doctors, hospitals and pregnancy centers not only provide information on abortion and where it is available, but also discuss the ‘benefits’ of abortion. If the doctor or center is morally or religiously opposed to abortion, they still must either refer the patient to another provider, transfer them to another provider or provide them with information on locations that will offer abortion.
This law amounts to total hypocrisy on the pro-choice community. Their major argument is that the government should not be involved in women’s health decisions and that those decisions should be left between the woman and her doctor. However, with the passage of this law they take that decision making process away by forcing what the doctor has to say even if he has moral or religious objections to it.
A July 2016 Knights of Columbus/ Marist poll shows that Americans overwhelmingly oppose forcing doctors to promote or provide abortion who have a moral or religious objection by a 57%-36% margin. What is perhaps just as astounding is that the law does not require health care professionals and centers to promote parenting or adoption in the event of an unintended pregnancy. It only promotes abortion. This raises the question that if the pro-choice community wants to give women choices, why are they passing through legislation that only promotes one option, and not a choice?
The Democratic Party has moved to the extreme on abortion in recent months. Their 2016 platform calls for a removal of the Hyde and Helms Amendment’s which would allow for U.S. taxpayer dollars to be used for abortions both in the U.S. as well as worldwide through foreign assistance funds. Bans on such use of taxpayer dollars have been in place for a generation and have always enjoyed bi-partisan support. According to the same Knights of Columbus/Marist Poll, removing these amendments is opposed by 62% of Americans including 45% of those identifying as pro-choice.

A home owner in Cleveland managed to go at least two-for-three against a trio of armed home invaders Monday, night sending one fleeing for his life, one to the hospital, and another one to the morgue.
One person is dead, another injured and a third person missing after a home invasion in Cleveland early Monday.
The 911 Communications Center received a call on Monday at 12:01 a.m. regarding shots fired at Springbrook Apartments, 2360 Blackburn Road.
Cleveland Police Department officers responded to apartment #93 where they found a deceased male, identified as Adam Johnson, 18.
It was later discovered that a male juvenile, who fled the scene, had also been shot during the altercation and was transported by a private vehicle to Tennova.
Witness statements assisted investigators in determining that a home invasion had occurred in apartment 93. During the invasion, three individuals, identified as Johnson, the male juvenile and an unidentified male, armed with handguns, forced entry into the apartment.
At some point during the incident, an occupant in apartment 93 shot Johnson and the male juvenile. The third suspect, fled the scene and is still being sought by police.
This home invasion is sadly far from unique.
Home invasion crews numbering 3-5 or even more suspects are relatively common, and in most of these instances, each and every suspect is armed with some kind of weapon, typically a handgun.
While shotguns are devastating at short range, they typically suffer from low on-board ammo capacity of 5-8 rounds, leaving a home owner in a precarious position when fighting a group of home invaders.
Handguns are much less powerful than shotguns. We’ve had two shootings we’ve covered at Bearing Arms this week where officers fired at suspects seven times and eight times (respectively) before the individual the officer fired upon went down. If it takes a moderately well-trained police officer 7 or 8 shots to knock down a perceived threat, then how many rounds do you think you may need to defeat an entire home invasion crew composed of 3-5 individuals?
Suddenly, those standard capacity magazines holding 15-19 bullets common to many handguns don’t look like they’re carrying any extra ammunition. The 30-round magazines common to many carbines seems incredibly reasonable when you look at the context of an individual fighting to defend his family against an entire home invasion crew.
Firearms designers built the guns they did with the magazine capacities they chose to suit a specific purpose.
Maybe, just maybe, busybody lawmakers should sit down, shut up, and stop acting like they know much of anything at all, when they clearly do not.
In light of the terrible crimes against humanity in Berlin, Germany, and Ankara, Turkey, let’s review some of the basic bedrock facts about Islamic violence.
Let’s first begin with a startling fact.
All the verses (except one) in the Quran about qital (war, fighting, slaughter, killing) can be explained and limited by their historical context. Even the famous so-called Sword Verse in Chapter 9:5 (see it four Sunni translations) can be dismissed as applying only to pagans in Muhammad’s day who supposedly broke a treaty with him. Like it or not, believe it or not, many Muslim scholars of a more moderate persuasion speak of these limiting historical contexts over and over again.
However, there is one verse that cannot be limited by its historical context because it is open-ended. Chapter 9:29 is about Muhammad’s military campaign to Tabuk (today in northern Saudi Arabia). He had heard a rumor that the Byzantines were gathering an army of 200,000, and he rode up north to meet them with his own qitalists of 20,000 to 30,000. But his prophetic powers did not work, because the rumor was false; no army materialized. Not all was lost. On his journey south, he met Jewish and Christian tribes, who must have been impressed to see such numbers.
At that time he got a “revelation,” so convenient for his political and military agenda, that said he could exact tribute, or the jizya tax, from these tribes. Here is the verse in a translation by Hilali and Khan (see it in three other Sunni translations), with parenthetical points they added for clarity:
Fight against those who (1) believe not in Allah, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger (4) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
The verb “fight” is in the imperative or command from qatala, which is much more narrow than jihad. It means slaughter, fight, kill, and wage war. (In fact, ironically, Chapter 47 can be titled either “Muhammad” or “Qital.”) The weakness in the term “jihad” is that nearly every time it is used in the Quran, it really does mean “struggle” and encompasses all of life, from a struggle against one’s own soul to imposing Islamic finances on a society. (One of my students was actually named Johnny Jihad, which was an honor for him. The struggle!) Yes, sometimes it does mean military warfare, but of course the Islamic left, like Egyptian Sayyid Qutb, one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, more broadly translated “jihad” into and from Marxism, which advocated the “struggle.”
It would be clearer for our defense and offense if we stopped using “jihad” and instead picked up the term “qital” when a violent act is committed. Of course “jihad” will never go out of fashion because it elevates the struggle in Muslim eyes. But qital and qitalist are more accurate than jihad or jihadist, in much the same way that “war” and “warrior” are more accurate than “struggle” or “struggler” in a context of violence.
Thus, the most dangerous verse in the Quran is 9:29, because it is continuous and admits of no expiration date. The violent military war (qital) will continue for as long as Islam is alive and radicals keep reading that verse. Jews and Christians need to be aware that they are the verse’s unending targets today and tomorrow.
It staggers belief that the politicians around the Western world refuse to acknowledge this unpleasant truth.

Despite all of her privilege, Lena Dunham has decided to inform the world that it’s not enough, because she hasn’t had the chance to have an abortion.
Lena Dunham, professional waste of space and champion of all things tasteless and obnoxious, has found a new way to insult women everywhere and insert herself front and center on an issue that has nothing to do with her.
To all appearances Dunham has everything anyone could reasonably want in life. She’s on TV, she’s wealthy, she gets a total pass for admitting that she molested her sister. Despite all of her privilege, Dunham decided to inform the world that it’s not enough, because she hasn’t had the chance to have an abortion.
No, her support is wrapped around the experiences of those women in her life who are close to her: “So many people I love – my mother, my best friends – have had to have abortions for all kinds of reasons. I feel so proud of them for their bravery, for their self-knowledge, and it was a really important moment for me then to realize I had internalized some of what society was throwing at us and I had to put it in the garbage. Now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.”
Dunham loves women who have had abortions, and that means that she wants one, too. She’s lessened the seriousness of abortion to something to do just because other peers have done it, or to prove a point. Her attempt today to walk back on these comments as a “distasteful joke” only confirms this is what she really thinks. In context her comments were not joking at all. They’re an attempt at sentimentality that only displays her sentiments are tied to all the wrong things. Her apology is, true to form, self-referential in the extreme and unintentionally, painfully funny:
My words were spoken from a sort of ‘delusional girl’ persona I often inhabit, a girl who careens between wisdom and ignorance (that’s what my TV show is too) and it didn’t translate. That’s my fault. I would never, ever intentionally trivialize the emotional and physical challenges of terminating a pregnancy.
Because there’s no group Dunham is unwilling to try to insert herself into, she also has “strong” desires to be a mother: “I’ve often said to (Antonoff, her boyfriend), ‘you know, I’m kind of getting towards the point in my life where I want to have children and whether I was with you or whether I wasn’t with you, that’s what I would want to do, but let’s find a way that you want to do it.’ I’ve always wanted to be a mother as long as I’ve been on this Earth. It’s something that has been important to me.”
With the number of crimes on the rise in St. Louis, MO, even armed state representative-elects are now able to feel the effects of being unarmed. Incoming legislator Bruce Franks Jr. was the victim of armed robbery Monday night.
Franks said he was robbed about 7:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the Schlafly Tap Room, 2100 Locust Street, by two men. One of the robbers was armed with a gun.
“I looked up and the guy had a gun and he told me to get out,” Franks said. “I got out and he pointed a gun at me and told me, ‘Get the hell out of here.’”
The young lawmaker, who has been an outspoken supporter of Terence Crutcher and Michael Brown, said he supports the right to keep and bear arms and has held a concealed carry permit since he was 24. But before entering the Schlafly Tap Room for a holiday party, Franks had disarmed himself, and at the time of the robbery, his firearm was still in the console of his vehicle. After exiting the party, he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle on his phone when one of the men opened up his car door, catching him off guard.
“If I reached for a gun, and he already has a gun pointed at me, that’s more reason for him to shoot me,” Franks said. “I would rather both of us survive.”
The armed robbers made off with Franks’ 2009 Toyota Camry, two cell phones and his .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun.
This is the second high-profile robbery the city has played host to in the past few weeks. On December 6th, Sheena Greitens, wife of Governor-elect Eric Greitens, had just exited a restaurant inside of her car in a parking lot looking at her cell phone when her car door was abruptly opened by an armed suspect.
Aside from being high-profile victims of the rising crime rate in St. Louis, both of these individuals have something else in common: they were focused on their cell phones in a parked, unlocked vehicle at night, completely oblivious to their surroundings. While one of them did have access to a firearm for their protection, it does little to help to protect anyone unaware of potential threats.
Police are still searching for the perpetrators of Franks’ armed robbery. The armed suspect is described as a black man, 19 to 24 years old, 150 pounds with a dark complexion and clean-shaven. The second suspect was a black man, 19 to 24 years old, approximately 150 pounds with a dark complexion and wearing a red bandana.
Warren staffer Hamza Abdelgany invited the senator to speak at a Boston Islamic Center linked to several major terrorism cases.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren said she made an ill-advised appearance at a Boston mosque linked to several major terrorism cases at the request of an office aide who attends the radical mosque.
The Massachusetts Democrat said she agreed to speak Sunday at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center at the urging of staffer Hamza Abdelgany, who is a member of the mosque, which has graduated no fewer than 13 terrorists and recently was caught on video defending many of the terrorists, even after they were convicted in federal court.
Warren spoke before the congregation for several minutes chiefly to complain about “anti-Muslim hate” allegedly inspired by the election of GOP President-elect Donald Trump.
Charles Jacobs, founder of Boston-based Americans for Peace and Tolerance, told CJ that he is “very concerned” that a member of a mosque that supports and even raises money for the legal defense of known terrorists has such political clout. He said that Warren’s ill-considered visit bestowed undue legitimacy on ISB.
ISB operates two mosques: one in Roxbury, where the so-called “interfaith” event attended by Warren was held, and the other in Cambridge, where several terrorists and terrorist supporters have worshipped, including:
- Boston Marathon bombers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev;
- Aafia Siddiqui, aka Lady al-Qaida, who raised money for the terror group in area mosques and is serving an 86-year federal sentence for trying to murder a US Army captain in Afghanistan, where she was captured with plans to carry out a chemical attack on New York City;
- ISB imam Abdullah Faaruuq, who was heard on tape urging Boston Muslims to “pick up the gun and the sword” to defend Siddiqui during her 2010 trial.
- Tarek Mehanna, who in 2012 got 17 years in federal prison for conspiring to use automatic weapons to murder shoppers in a suburban Boston mall, as well as for conspiring to aid Al Qaeda;
- Ahmad Abousamra, an indicted terrorist co-conspirator of Mehanna who fled to Syria in 2006 where he resurfaced as a top ISIS propagandist and was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list in 2013, where he remains today.
- ISB congregant Rezwan Ferdaus, who in 2012 got 17 years in federal prison for plotting to attack the Pentagon and US Capitol with remote-controlled airplane bombs.
- ISB major donor Oussama Ziade, who was indicted in 2009 for dealing with terrorist funds and is now a fugitive living in Lebanon.
- ISB co-founder Abduraham Alamoudi, who was sentenced in 2004 to 23 years in prison for plotting terrorism and identified by the US government as a top Muslim Brotherhood figure as well as a key al-Qaida fundraiser in America.
- ISB founding trustee Yusuf Qaradawi, who was placed on the US terror watchlist after calling for violent jihad against US troops in Iraq and is currently the subject of an Interpol arrest warrant on charges of incitement to murder.
- Jamal Badawi, another former trustee who in 2007 was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a plan to funnel more than $12 million to Palestinian suicide bombers.
ISB leadership also includes Abdul-Malik Merchant, an associate imam who recently was forced to apologize to the Jewish community for posting anti-Semitic posts on social media.
ISB member Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was caught on surveillance videotape planting a bomb along the Boston Marathon route, became an angry jihadist after joining the mosque. According to his ex-girlfriend, “One minute he was a normal guy, the next minute he is watching these crazy Muslim videos.”
In 2011, ISB hosted an event in support of no fewer than 22 terrorists who were convicted of providing material support for al-Qaeda, Hamas, Palestinian Jihad and Pakistani terrorist groups — including Siddiqui, Alamoudi and Mehanna. During the event, which was caught on video, relatives of the terrorists bashed the FBI, the Justice Department and the US government; and at least one speaker called for violent jihad against the US.
Still, Warren stood where they stood and bashed the president-elect.
“I am very concerned about how Donald trump is beginning to define his administration with the people he personally is picking to lead this country,” Warren said, while claiming that “since the election attacks on racial and religious groups have skyrocketed.”
“Now is a time when we must be willing to say loud and clear there is no room for bigotry anywhere in the United States of America — none,” she said. “An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, and we will fight back against discrimination whenever and wherever it occurs.”
Six prominent religious leaders fired off a letter criticizing Warren for agreeing to appear at the mosque, arguing she provided “political cover to one of the most intolerant jihadist mosques in America.”
Warren was invited by ISB member Hamza Abdelgany, a staff assistant working out of Warren’s Quincy, Mass., office. Abdelgany was involved with the Muslim Students Association while attending the University of Massachusetts at Boston. The US government says MSA is a front group for the radical Muslim Brotherhood, which supports violent jihad and conspires to one day bring the US and other Western nations under Islamic rule.
“The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt … Its ultimate goal is the creation of a global Islamic State governed by Sharia law,” U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks said in a 2008 court filing related to a major terrorism case. “Muslim Brotherhood members first migrated to the United States in the 1960s, where they began their grassroots work on campuses through an organization called the Muslim Students Association.”
ISB is run by the Muslim American Society, a known Muslim Brotherhood front group which also runs the so-called “9/11 mosque” in the Washington area, Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center.
Ilya Feoktistov, director of research for Americans for Peace and Tolerance, said that by ignoring ISB’s well-documented ties to terrorists, Warren is serving as an “enabler” of jihad.
