A California man has invented a simple part he hopes to sell for $10 that thwarts draconian (and blatantly unconstitutional) new “assault weapons” law.
New gun laws in California have gun enthusiasts and companies looking for ways to make guns, like an AR-15, compliant with the law while still retaining a relatively quick and simple way to remove a magazine.
Under the new law there is a new definition of “assault weapon”, which means any semi-automatic center fire rifle, such as an AR-15, is considered an assault rifle if it does not have a fixed magazine but has features like a flash suppresser and pistol grip.
John Bastiani, with Bastiani Arms said there are products in the market right now that can modify an AR so it is compliant, while still allowing it to be disassembled quickly to take out the magazine. However, he feels those products are expensive.
“Things that are on the market now cost upwards of $50, per gun to convert and make them legal,” he explained. “There needs to be a cheap solution. There might be people out there with 10 guns that they need to convert and at $50 per gun that’s cost prohibitive.”
Bastiani and his friend Mike Schroeder decided they would find an easy and inexpensive solution.
“This is something that is legally necessary if you don’t desire to register your weapon as an assault weapon,” Bastiani said.
For months the two researched and designed parts that they could patent. They realized other people had the same idea, so they hit the drawing board once again. Then in less than two hours they came up with a new idea. They decided to replace the bolt catch on the left side of the gun.
“I cut some stainless steel… traced around, laid it out, cut it out with a dremel and a file, put it in the gun and said, ‘Oh my god, it actually does what I thought it would!’,” he said in disbelief. “We kind of lucked out because no one was thinking of the side of the gun we developed our lock for.”
He explained their small steel part does the exact same thing as the other products out there, but only requires one piece of steel.
“It requires no skill at all to install,” he said.
He added the part should only cost around $10 and would fit on any AR.
Bastiani has named the single-piece solution brilliantly, calling it the MOD1, with “MOD” standing for “Mandatory Orwellian Device” as a slap at California’s absurdly anti-gun progressive state government.
I wish Bastiani all the best in getting his product to market and in widespread distribution as a low-cost solution to a government-caused problem, and hope that California’s absurd gun laws can be thwarted in court.

“Texas Officials Warn of ISIS Threat to U.S.-Mexican Border,” by John Rossomando, Investigative Project, January 26, 2017:
A report by the Texas Department of Public Safety raises concerns about ISIS terrorists using the Mexican border both to enter and leave the country. It noted that at least 13 aspiring terrorists have tried to cross into Mexico, or considered trying, since 2012.
Most of those cases involved people who knew they were on the federal no-fly list but wanted to travel to join terrorists, the report said. Sneaking across the southern border “presents an opportunity for increasing numbers of aspiring foreign terrorist fighters to evade US interdiction efforts such as the No-Fly List.”
The most recent example happened in October. Texas authorities arrested two Milwaukee men near San Angelo, Texas on the way to the Mexican border. Jason Ludke, 35, and Yosvany Padilla-Conde, 30, wanted to go to Mexico, obtain fraudulent travel documents and travel to join ISIS in Syria or Iraq.
Texas resident Bilal Hamed Abood, an Iraq-born naturalized U.S. citizen, successfully used the border in 2013 to travel to Syria, where he fought for a Syrian rebel group. The FBI arrested Abood for lying about his initial travel to Syria when he tried to come home through the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. Abood claimed he fought for a faction that was not prohibited under U.S. law. However, FBI agents search his computer and found that he took an oath of allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Texas authorities voiced concern in 2014 about ISIS social media threats to use the Mexican border to enter the United States.
In a criminal complaint filed last year, alleged ISIS supporter Erick Jamal Hendricks claimed to have had contact with an ISIS supporter known as “Abu Harb.” “Abu Harb” told Hendricks that he was in Dallas and that the “Islamic State had brothers in Mexico.”
President Trump touted the ISIS threat as a reason for building his wall along the Mexican border during the campaign. He signed an executive order Wednesday calling for the wall’s construction, but funding sources are not yet clear.

Chili’s restaurants has cancelled a Planned Parenthood fundraiser that was being held at locations across two states after pro-life people complained.
In an exclusive report a LifeNews.com yesterday, Chili’s restaurants in two states were coming under fire from pro-life advocates for giving 15% of patron’s meal purchases to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.
Earlier this week the Planned Parenthood abortion business affiliate in Indiana and Kentucky posted a promotional code its supporters could use to request that Chili’s donate 15% of the pre-tax meal purchase to benefit the abortion corporation.
According to the image the abortion company posted, its supporters can bring the voucher to any of the identified Chili’s locations participating in the give back program. The voucher is good whether people purchasing food at Chili’s dine in the restaurant or order food to go. According to the voucher, Chili’s will donate to Planned Parenthood 15% of the meal purchase between now and the end of March.
Today, the corporate office of Chili’s restaurants reached out to LifeNews.com with information that the Planned Parenthood fundraiser has been cancelled. Chili’s told LifeNews that the decision to engage in the Planned Parenthood fundraiser was made by a local franchise partner not by the national corporate office.
“At Chili’s, we have a longstanding history and take pride in giving back to unite our local communities together. We recognize every community is unique, and encourage our restaurant managers and franchise partners to support causes that help bring communities together and leave a positive impact on our valued Guests, neighbors, friends and families we serve,” Chili’s Grill & Bar told LifeNews.
“Yesterday, we learned that an independent franchise partner of Chili’s in Indiana and Kentucky made the decision to host a Chili’s Give Back Event on behalf of Planned Parenthood Indiana and Kentucky. While our franchise partner had the best intentions; we have received growing feedback and concern from community members regarding the Give Back Event,” the restaurant chain continued. “This feedback does not reflect Chili’s focus on bringing communities together and the event was never intended to be viewed as a partisan event or political statement, therefore we, along with our franchise partner, have decided to cancel the event. ”
“We will more clearly communicate the focus of Chili’s charitable giving efforts, so that our restaurant managers and franchise partners can feel empowered to support local organizations that bring communities together,” Chili’s added.
This is not the first time that Chili’s has been involved in potential donations to the Planned Parenthood abortion business. A Chili’s restaurant in California initially set up a fundraiser for a local Planned Parenthood abortion clinic but eventually cancelled it after pro-life advocates complained.
According to a spokesperson for Chili’s parent company, Brinker International, Inc., “The event was canceled after hearing growing concerns from our guests.” Management of the Natomas Chili’s received numerous calls, as the Sacramento community expressed concerns about Chili’s restaurant donating money to Planned Parenthood, which performs over 330,000 abortions every year.
Wynette Sills, a local pro-life advocate who had been monitoring the situation, told LifeNews today, “The Chili’s fundraiser for Planned Parenthood was brought to my attention … the night before the event. By the next morning, Chili’s decided to cancel the Planned Parenthood fundraiser due to guest complaints.”
Although Chili’s Bar & Grill officially cancelled the Planned Parenthood fundraiser at their Truxel Road location, the restaurant did make a $200 donation to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Sacramento chapter, as compensation for the last minute cancellation, Sills informed LifeNews.
Sills responded, “It is very disappointing that any amount of money went to support the abortion industry, but I imagine the $200 compensation was necessary to avoid litigation. Planned Parenthood is not accustomed to losing.”
According to a corporate statement from Chili’s at the time, “The manager at this location had the best of intentions when organizing this event, and deeply regrets upsetting our valued guests.”

President-Elect Donald Trump stunned the world last night with a commanding upset victory over the heavy favorite, Democrat Hillary Clinton. In addition to Trump’s victory in the contest to be the 45th President of the United States, the National Rifle Association’s five million members helped retain control of the Senate by backing victorious GOP contenders in Florida, Missouri, Indiana, North Carolina, and Wisconsin (at this time, New Hampshire’s Senate contest between Kelly Ayotte (R) and Maggie Hassan (D) remains too close to call). The House also remains comfortably under the control of the GOP.
The NRA pumped more money into Trump’s election than any super-PAC, and Trump has a reputation for standing by his allies.
Here are five fast gun law reforms President Trump and his Republican House and Senate can make.
Ending Gun-Free Zones On Military Bases
President Trump will have the authority to executive authority to pass an executive order allowing the United States military to carry firearms on duty. Our domestic military bases and facilities have been the site of numerous terror attacks and mass shootings. Trump can reverse that with the stroke of a pen. He would also apparently have the authority to end firearm bans on other federal property, but there are so many laws and regulations that I don’t want to make that claim prematurely.
National Concealed Carry Reciprocity
There is significant momentum towards establishing national concealed carry reciprocity in all 50 states. President Trump, working with a Republican-controlled House and Senate, should be able to get this passed into law within the first 90 days. There are four different bills to choose from in the House and Senate.
Making a hearing safety device criminal was one of the dumbest things ever done under the Administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt… and that’s saying a lot. The Hearing Protection Act is already written and has co-sponsors. It should be passed within the first 60 days of President Trump’s administration, which is a blessing to high-volume shooters such as myself who would like to better protect our hearing.
NICS Background Check Reform
Gun control supporters want a “universal” background checks on all gun purchases in order to create a de facto gun registry… and that’s just not going to happen. What is going to happen is that President Trump, the House, and Senate are going to work on legislation to close the gaping holes in the existing background check system so that it is more effective, ensuring better and more accurate updating of prohibited persons. This will likely run in conjunction with mental health reform to both help people in crisis obtain the help they need, and ensure that fears of losing their Second Amendment rights won’t keep people from seeking help for a temporary but important mental health crisis.
Allow Importation of Collectable Historical Firearms
President Obama has stymied the importation of historically significant firearms provided to allies after the Second World War and the Korean War through executive orders. The Collectible Firearms Protection Act will allow the reimportation of hundreds of thousand of M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, and M1911 pistols.
These are five laws that a Republican Congress and President Trump can pass within the first 90-180 days, but they are not the only laws being considered.
The ex-Secretary of State from the corrupt, immoral, and radical Leftist Democratic William (Bill) J. Clinton administration is way over the top in her public statements. This political hack who once condemned half of the US population to a “place in Hell for women who don’t help each other” has now stated she will register as a Muslim. What a pity it is for someone to follow the example of an irrelevant, divisive, and America-hating radical Leftist such as Gloria Steinem.
Please, Dr. Albright inform the American people when the federal government began requiring registration by religious affiliation? It is beyond comprehension that this condition exists. The First Amendment in the Bill of Rights forbids the federal government from enacting laws or policies “prohibiting the free exercise” of religion.
It seems Dr. Albright is spouting off this hyperbole to become relevant again. Her time has come to an end. The anti-American radical Leftist ideas she so desperately clings to were soundly rejected by freedom-loving Americans as demonstrated by the defeat of the corrupt Hillary Rodham Clinton in the last presidential election.
It is time for Madeleine Albright to fade into obscurity.

A security source in Iraq’s Kirkuk reported on Friday that ISIS terrorists set fire on a mother and her four children under the pretext of leaving the “land of the Caliphate.”
Media reports confirmed that ISIS militants arrested the family, composed of a mother, three girls and one boy, on Himreen highway, and burnt them in front of other displaced civilians.
ISIS terrorists occupied swathes of territories in Iraq in 2014, yet the Iraqi army and security forces, backed by the mobilization troops and allies, managed in 2015 and 2016 to confront the Takfiri group’s advance and liberated most of the militant-held areas, except Mosul which witnesses fierce battles to regain it.

Pro-life groups celebrated the inauguration of President Donald Trump and his commitment to pro-life policies on Friday, marking the end of an eight-year struggle to protect lives under a pro-abortion White House administration.
Trump, who has committed to being a pro-life president, and Vice President Mike Pence, a strong pro-life leader throughout his government service, were sworn into office at noon Friday as the 45th presidential leaders of the United States.
In his address, President Trump promised to bring changes to America and to protect the “forgotten” people.
“The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer,” Trump said in his address. “We are transferring power from Washington DC, and giving it back to you, the people.”
Later, he continued: “And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the wind-swept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty creator.”
Pro-life leaders are hopeful that the Trump administration will include unborn babies among those whose rights were “forgotten” under the President Barack Obama administration.
“From the Cabinet, to the Supreme Court, to over 100 open federal judge seats, to the many other appointments, the next 100 days and beyond are critical and we need to surround the President in prayer to make wise decisions,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “We are standing on the verge of major change that will reverberate around the world.”
Trump, who once described himself as pro-choice on abortion, now says he is pro-life. Many who were skeptical about the sincerity of his views felt reassured when he chose Pence and other strong pro-life leaders to help run his administration.
In the past few months, Trump promised to nominate pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court and to sign a bill to ban late-term abortions on unborn babies who can feel pain. He also vowed to sign a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and redirect tax dollars to community health centers that provide comprehensive care without doing abortions. He said he also would make permanent the Hyde Amendment, which bans taxpayer funding for abortions in Medicaid.
Karen Cross, political director for the National Right to Life Committee, also is hopeful that there soon will be new protections for unborn babies and moms in America.
“Trump’s victory means that the myriad of bills that pro-life senators and representatives work to pass, including the ‘No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act’ and the ‘Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,’ will not be blocked by veto threats, as they have been under Obama, and would have certainly faced under a [Hillary] Clinton presidency,” Cross wrote in National Right to Life News.
“When Vice President Biden announced ‘It’s over’ for Clinton, it means it’s not over for unborn babies who now have a fighting chance to live. 2016’s historic election means many more lives will be saved,” Cross continued.
On Inauguration Day, Devin Scribner, executive director of Ohio Right to Life, said he was thinking about the upcoming anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the impact a pro-life presidential administration could have on that infamous decision.
“This Sunday, we will mark the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and remember the 60 million human lives who have been taken by legalized abortion,” Scribner said. “As somber a day this will inevitably be, we have reason to hope and believe that in the near future we will no longer have to protest this notorious decision.”
Previously, when asked if Roe v. Wade would be overturned by judges Trump would appoint, he said that would be the case.
“Well, if that would happen because I am pro-life, and I will be appointing pro-life judges,” Trump said. “Well if we put another two or perhaps three justices on that’s really what’s going to be — that will happen. It’ll happen automatically in my opinion because I am putting pro-life justices on the court.”

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit struck down Chicago’s ban on gun ranges on January 19, calling it “unconstitutional.”
The rules preventing the building of gun ranges were contained in a body of ordinances that allowed gun ranges in “manufacturing” portions of the city only, while “[placing] limits on the distances [gun ranges] can be located in relation to other gun ranges and to residential areas, schools, parks and places of worship,” according to the Associated Press (AP).
The AP also reported that a three-judge panel cited the city’s contention that “the ordinances serve important public health and safety interests” and that gun ranges “attract gun thieves, cause airborne lead contamination and carry a risk of fire.”
The opinion issued by the court, however, countered the city’s arguments, saying:
The city has provided no evidentiary support for these claims, nor has it established that limiting shooting ranges to manufacturing districts and distancing them from the multiple and various uses listed in the buffer-zone rule has any connection to reducing these risks.
Another portion of Chicago’s ban was a prohibition on “anyone under 18” entering a gun range. The 7th Circuit struck this ordinance down, as well.
One of the three judges on the 7th Circuit panel was Diane Sykes, who “was on a list of 11 judges President-elect Donald Trump made public last year as among those he would consider as candidates for the U.S. Supreme Court.”
The 7th Circuit was responsible for striking down Illinois’ ban on concealed carry in December 2012. Striking down the ban, Judge Richard Posner wrote:
We are disinclined to engage in another round of historical analysis to determine whether eighteenth-century America understood the Second Amendment to include a right to bear guns outside the home. The Supreme Court has decided that the amendment confers a right to bear arms for self-defense, which is as important outside the home as inside.

The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law. It’s based on the Qur’an: “They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Qur’an 4:89)
A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence.
This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-‘ashriyyah, Al-Ja’fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.”
Qaradawi also once famously said: “If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today.”
In light of all that, it is no surprise that Hamas-linked CAIR would ignore this pledge.
A Texas lawmaker is asking state mosque leaders to pledge support for the “safety” of former Muslims in a mailed survey being condemned by Islamic civil rights groups.
A spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Thursday that he told mosque leaders to ignore Republican state Rep. Kyle Biedermann.
One question asks respondents to renounce any possible persecution that those leaving Islam could face. Others inquired about renouncing “institutionalized Sharia law” and gauged support for having the U.S. State Department label the Muslim Brotherhood a foreign terrorist organization.
Biedermann said in a statement that the survey was prepared for an upcoming homeland security conference.
Another Texas lawmaker, Rep. Molly White, sparked outcry in 2015 after instructing Muslims visiting her state Capitol office to declare their allegiance to the U.S.
